Are 40mg of Omeprazole stronger/better than 60mg of Lansoprazole please?
Answers:
All of the proton pump inhibitors are considered equivalent to each other at their respective doses. A normal dose of omeprazole is 20mg and a normal dose of lansoprazole is 30mg. Taking twice the ordinary dose is recommended in some patients when taking the normal dose doesn't work, or in other situations as determined by your doctor. Since they are considered equivalent contained by their normal doses, they're also equivalent at twice their normal doses. Most patients do like one proton pump inhibitor more than another, but its really base on personal preference. If one works better for you than the other, then just stick near it. 60mg of lansoprazole is a very large dose, and should not be taken for longer than 8 weeks. 40mg of omeprazole, divided twice a day, is the maximum routine dose for long-term use. It's a bit difficult to compare, but the high-dose lansoprazole is probably stronger than the omeprazole. Source(s): I'm a physician.
