How long will it run to become a doctor?

it takes 4 years of collage and 4 years of med school... but how long is the do you have to be a intern to become a doctor?

PS:to be more specific a surgeon
Answers:
The surgical program you mix depends on what type of surgeon you would like to be. If you want to be a general surgeon you have between 5 to 7 years of trainig depending on whather you close to to do a year or two in research.
If you would like to be a neurosurgeon that takes 6 years.
If you would resembling to be a heart surgeon that takes 7 to 9 years.
You're asking the WRONG question! It's what does it take as economically as HOW long. This answer is long b/c the road ahead is long. I hope you enjoy!

The route to become a doctor in the US is a long path. You must really dream up about this goal. I believe in FULL disclosure:

When I be little somebody told me I didn't have to take chemistry to become a doctor...WRONG!!

Anything you want to become. Think about it long and concrete and RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH!

Even if it looks hard...there's nothing wrong with firm as long as you are prepared. Then it becomes quite EASY!

Here's the short version:

4 year University (then a experiment and application)
4 year Med School (then 2 tests, application)
4 years Residency (then 2 tests, tests for the rest of your life)
some nation go on to sub specialize for a few more years! ;)

Here's what they don't tell you.

Getting into medicine is competitive! For every slot there's a greater number applying...remember playing The Cake Walk?

TESTS:
MCAT - exam you take in your junior year to get into med arts school. see below
AMCAS - application that you must fill out in junior year of college
STEP1 - covers your 1st 2 years of medical school. Some school give you a chance to retake if you don't pass. Some school kick you out!
STEP2 - covers last 2 years of medical school but you solely get 1 year to study.
ERAS - application you fill out in the summer back your last year!
MATCH - based on your grades and your specialty you go on interviews (avg is 10) and confer your top choice and they give their top choice... most people get in their top 5 choices.
STEP3 - you're a resident...you should know this stuff by now!
Tests every 5-10 years for doctors for re-certification

RESIDENCY: The avg is 4 years! For example, Family Practice is 3 years, Surgery is 5 years, Orthopedics/ENT - 6 - 7 years)

DOLLARS AND SENSE: during residency you are paid <40,000
you may accrue debt (a) 20 K / year or more depending on institution
you will take exams for the rest of your energy!
doctor's salaries are diminishing
if you become an OB you will pay yearly insurance within excess of 20K / year

MAJORS: Most doctors have a degree in Chemistry, Biology, Math or Science-relatein seventh heavend. However, medicine is moving toward diversity. I know of a piano composer, stock broker, and library science major that were extremely strong students. However, they be EXTREMELY competent as students!! I recommend a non-science major so you don't burn out! As long as your grades in the sciences are good (3.5+) - it doesn't issue your major. The committee may consider other factors (death etc.) if they fall slightly below, but I wouldn't rely on that. In defence you were wondering, age is no biggie either. I know a student who began medical institution at 50 years old.

COURSEWORK: Here are the science courses you will need to accrue. The rest of university work is the same depending on your trunk!

Biology (4 courses)
Chemistry (2 courses)
Organic Chemistry (2 courses)
Anatomy & Physiology
1 Calculus class
Physics (2 classes)

I would also take:
Immunology
Advanced Anatomy class
Advanced / Medical Physiology
Advanced Immunology
..and a review course before the MCAT if you aren't so sure of your abilities, or in recent times to solidify.

l would also try to RETAIN this information, b/c just like elementary school. It's adjectives repeated in medicine and it will help product life easier on you in med school.

This is adjectives to prepare you to take the MCAT these are the subjects tested:
Physical Sciences
Biological Sciences
Verbal Reasoning
Writing Sample

Once you get your score. You'll supply it to your AMCAS application, along with your personal statement. You'll wait to see if you get interviewed. You'll dance on your interviews (save $$$) and wait some more! 3-4 interviews and you're doing good. (this same process happens within your 4th year of med school when MATCHing for residency.) If you are a good candidate! You're contained by!

HELP: Take a course before you take the MCAT - it can't hurt. They cost about 2,000.

GRADES: If you choose a NON-science main... your performance in science courses will be scrutinized by a committee.

I suggest you do more research: Start here...

SHORT ANSWER: It take 5 years of residency training if you don't sub-specialize and 8 years of undergrad.

Good luck!
