Stem Cell Research... I want to hear both sides?
I want to learn a little more about stem cell research. I want to hear both sides of the story to know both pros and cons of both sides. Please both what you deem and give reason to back it. I would also similar to to hear why you feel the other side IS NOT right, but please keep it nice and dont be hating. I'm doing this to swot up about both sides and the full big on argument on it, so any topics of discussion, or facts about both or either sides are kindness. I support stem cell research because, as a biology student, I believe we should try and explore any avenues available to us when it comes to the advancement of medical science. Potentially, the use of stem cells could allow us to treat illnesses which, at the moment, are effectively a death sentence. One of the most exciting things about the technology, contained by my opinion, is the possibility of generating human organs for transplantation, meaning no risk of rejection, no lifetime of immune system-suppressing drugs and no avoidable deaths while people wait for a donor organ. I appreciate that we are still far from that point, but I do cogitate scientists should have the freedom to explore all the benefits this technology could offer us.
On the flip side, I am a religious creature and according to doctrine I should be opposed to stem cell research. However, I find it hard to agree with relatives who question the ethics of such research when, surely, it is unethical to allow ethnic group to die waiting for donor organs or other treatments when the means to save them could be at our fingertips?
This is a hugely multi-faceted debate that will continue for the foreseeable adjectives, but, like so many other such issues, it is important not to generalise and assume everything is black and white- near are many grey areas and each case should be taken on its merits.
