10mg Diazepam ?

Im a 16 year old guy and am about 6ft and weigh 182 pounds. I've got social anxiety that cause me to get really paranoid around people. When im in course and things like that i feel as if everyone behind me is looking at me and laughing at my obverse or something. Because of this my face goes red, i start to sweat, my heart starts beating really hurriedly and my head sort of twitches which causes me to get even more anxious. Anyway my doctor prescribed me 1 mg lorazepam to rob before an event i had to attend and for the most part it worked, i feel a lot more chilled out than i usually would. So i started school this week and my doctor gave me 14 diazepam tablets (5mg) to pocket when i feel anxious. So i took one tablet on my first day but i did'nt feel much different to how i typically feel. So i was wondering if i took 2 5mg tablets would it make me have a feeling less anxious and paranoid ??

From my past experience as a nurse I would advise you to avoid, if at all possible, any anxiolytic drugs. Ativan is a specifically addictive substance and I have seen several peoples' lives blighted by this drug that should be banned. It is OK for immensely occasional use but do not take it on a frequent basis, like day after day.

You really need to think about asking your doctor if he would consider sending you to someone who can sustain you with some sort of cognitive therapy. This does not rely on the false safety network of drugs but instead helps you to develop your own ways and strategies for overcoming you shyness and anxiety. This will mean several weeks of talking and practising but will within the end be much more valuable than medication.

Of course the chances are surrounded by the longer term you will get over this as your personality develops. Source(s): Working within mental health for 20 years
These drugs are highly addictive and I would advise you to one and only take the prescribed dose and only when absolutely basic.
You are very young to be taking this and if you increase your dose you will build up an immunity. This lead to needing higher does in adjectives, which is not what you want.
People who have taken these type of drugs for a long time seem to have a smog about them, where they never feel down in the mouth, but never feel happy either. Source(s): I work surrounded by mental health
It is certainly not a good model to double your dose without speaking with your doctor. But 1mg of Ativan is equal to about 10 mg of Valium (diazepam). So you are effectively taking partly the dose you were taking. So I am sure that two tablets would help more but please do talk near your doctor. Diazepam is typically better for people who need to take medication adjectives of the time because it lasts so long. Ativan can be used in that way too but it is also intensely good to take for a panic attack or extreme anxiety. And Xanax (alprazolam) is the golden standard medication for treating an acute anxiety situation. 0.5 mg of Xanax is equal to 10 mg of diazepam. Xanax works exceptionally quickly and it is highly potent.

So you might just call for the right medication. Diazepam comes in 2, 5, and 10 mg tablets. Ativan comes in 1, and 2.5 mg tablets (that is assuming for are from the UK?) And Xanax comes in 0.25 and 0.5 mg tablets (in The UK), 1 mg and 2 mg tablets are also available within The US and Canada. Keep in mind that not only is it hard to find the best medication but adjectives of these drugs have a different potency and often doctors don't adjust for potency when switching drugs.

Best of luck. Source(s): I am a medical student for psychiatry and internal medicine. I hold a specialist degree (Hons. BSc) in pharmacology and I have interned beneath two psychiatrists, and one neurologist. I have also worked as a pharmacy assistant.

I have panic disorder and I hold taken Ativan, diazepam, and I currently take Xanax.
no it dont diazepam helps reduce stress but it may not work automatically. if this happen again and again, then ASK UR DOCTOR before taking too. it could cause deface to ur body.
do not take more than the prescribed dosage to start with if you run double your dose it will make you very tired secondly this is a very addictive drug another pretext you should not take more than the prescribed dosage it is something that is very death-defying indeed Source(s): Over 30 Years working in a Hospital
These drugs are very effective within treating short term anxiety, as you know, so yes, the more you take the less anxious you'll touch. Having stated that, its very easy to build tolerance to these medications so its prominent to be responsible. I am not exactly sure the dose of diazepam but I take Xanax occasionally for my anxiety and the baseline dose is .5 mg. If I have a speech or some other really stressful situation, I might take two to three doses. I would shorten yourself to taking this medication less the twice a week to avoid building a tolerance and dependence.
