Lidocaine as a local?

ok so if lidocaine is a local, how can it be used for a major nerv block in IV's? (major never block being 225mg - 440 mg) wouldnt this numb the heart?
Answers:
Yes, it is a possibility. That is why the heart rate is constantly monitored and lidocaine IV is administered greatly slow (a bolus dose of 0.35-0.70 mg/kg/min followed by 0.014 to 0.057 mg/kg/min infusion in NS). Source(s): Personal knowledge
