Writing story, involve accurate medical answer?
Writing story, need to know accurate medical detail for one of characters. Could someone who survives a broken pelvis suffer nerve damage that paralyses their legs but zilch else? I know a broken pelvis is often severe damage that is life-threatening, but want to assume the human being survives. Would the nerve damage be irreversible? Also are there any other injuries that would inflict paralysis on the legs but not the pelvic area? I'm trying for a temporary thing here, something the human being would eventually recover from and regain use of legs. Please don't give me daft answers, I need care here and preferably from somebody medically qualified. Any sites you know of that might give me help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Could do with specifics of disrupt involved too, would it be blunt trauma to one side, back or front? Would it need to be a complete break or crack? Also would nerve wound caused by head injury do the same and would it only be the legs? And, most important, would head injury be something the person could recuperate from? Sorry this is so complicated but its no good having half the details...appreciation
Answers:
Spine fracture would work better than pelvic fracture. Pelvic fracture doesn't typically cause nerve damage a bit there is a concern for severe bleeding and damage to the pelvic organs.

Fracture of the lumbar or lower thoracic spine can cause paralysis as the fractured vertebrae can impinge on the spinal cord and mischief it. Depending on the severity, function may be able to be regained with psychiatric therapy.
Severe pelvic and spine fractures are usually caused by blunt injury like a motor vehicle accident or crush injury.
Head injury can be mild to severe, prognosis depends on the extent of devastate. The body parts affected by brain damage depend on what part of the brain is injured. Source(s): PA surgical / trauma critical keeping, I see lots of pelvic and spinal fractures due to trauma.
Getting so bossy in your request is not likely to get perceptive or kind answers, as this is an all volunteer construct.
