Has any one hear of "Beta iodine" ?

Or it should be called as Betadine.

I just have two question that first, why the pharmaceutical company named it as "Betadine".

The second one, I know the "Betadine" it is the brand name of povidone-iodine, I just wonder within your area, somewhere in U.S.A, if anyone calls it as "beta iodine"? If so, does anyone know where on earth the "beta" is from? or It is just from "Beta"dine, or you never heard of "Beta iodine"?
Answers:
Well there is the form of Iodine, which is particular as Iodine Monochloride. Under certain conditions this can orient to a form known as beta-Iodine Monochloride, which is crystaline in structure.

However, within the United States, Betadine is just a name brand used for Providion Iodine and I have never hear of it being referred to as beta Iodine in that reference.

There are also some beta orientations surrounded by some of the radioactive isotopes of Iodine, which are used to treat certain types of cancer. An example of that would be Iodine 131 (because it decays with beta emissions) Source(s): Toxicologist
