How do you taper an antipsychotic similar to Haldol?
My doctor won't tell me how to get off of Haldol and its really frustrating because I abhor this drug! I take 1mg per day. How do I do it comfortably? I also take Ritalin and Ativan...

1 mg of Haldol is a enormously small dose and if your doctor wants you to take it then you really call for to get a good answer from him as to why you need it. If he have good reason to want you on it then it is probably best. You can ask almost alternatives to Haldol. And if you say "I'm stopping Haldol" he can not force you to take it unless you are an imminent threat to your self or others. And any ethical doctor will give an account you what to do. But a second opinion is my best advice. If two doctors both agree on your treatment then it is correct to stay on it.
But just so you know Haldol is not addictive nor does it cause dependency and (especially at 1 mg) there should not be key problems from stopping it. Ativan and Ritalin are far more likely to be uncomfortable if you stop. Those drugs must never be stopped without instructions from a doctor. If you are unhappy with the regimen your doctor is prescribing, find a different doctor and let him or her taper you off; do NOT do it on your own.
