Is it true that Salbutamol can defile the lungs?

I am a lifelong asthmatic, and I have recently been informed by my step-grandmother (who is a nurse, but a a bit incompetent one) that Salbutamol (the drug I am prescribed to relieve the symptoms of my asthma) can and will damage my lungs over time.

Salbutamol is taken orally, via a metal cylinder inside a plastic inhaler which contains the Salbutamol sulphate mist, which I inhale. Can this truly damage my lungs?

Please lend a hand, so I know whether or not to switch to a different drug.
