When does one usually settle on what specialty or what type of doctor he/she desires to be?

I am thinking of becoming a doctor but i don't know if i should choose what to specialize in. Do most people know or do they find out during med school?
Answers:
Most nation know well in advance, and they're commonly wrong. There's really no point thinking about it until you've had the clinical rotations to have an perception of what the specialties are really like. In the US/Canadian system, that's the third year of medical school. A large portion of respectively medical school class who "knew" what specialty they wanted change their minds at that time, and you should surface no embarrassment at being unsure when people ask you previously that point.
This is a frequent question, by the way, and the doctors on this site universally give impossible to tell apart answer.
I would say some people know (like my roomate who knew he required to be a pediatrician since he was in elementary school). Most figure it out during their 3rd and 4th years of medical arts school when they are rotating through the wards. There is a specialty of medicine for just give or take a few every personality type and temperment, and there are even ways to change specialties once you are finished near residency. There is no rush to choose a specialty unless you are trying to enter this years ERAS
