A Religious gene - is this possible ?

If as we are discovering that a great deal of human behaviour is largely determined by genetics is it possible that humans are predisposed to self more/or less religious and then depending on how much nurturing is done by parents/school/family in their duration a person will be greater or less a believer or a follower of a religious belief system and or God ?

Any Thoughts/ideas ?
Answers:
No, I really seriously doubt it. To a very, totally small extent, genes may control our most basic behaviors. But the way we act and estimate has far more to do with the way we be brought up, the personal decisions we made along the way, and the personal experiences which help shape our personality.
I believe there has been some research which pinpoints an nouns of the brain which may be linked to religious belief but I am not entirely sure on that. Even if there is a gene for religion this would still probably only remain as a predisposition and it is surely environmental factor which have a bigger role to play. Genetics is often talked up profusely, with people thinking it is far more influential on how a person turns out consequently it actually is, this is normally because the idea of a single gene human being responsible is easier to understand that to try and comprehend the myriad of interconnected environmental factors involved.

I wouldn't have thought so. I am an athiest very soon and as far as I can tell the only reason I believed within God when I was younger was because it was qualified in school and nobody tells a immature kid that 'actually there is no heaven and hell, your just going to die!' I also believed surrounded by Santa Claus that age because my parents told me he was real, but I'm guessing Jewish people aren't born predisposed to believing within Father Christmas hehe
