Well, since the MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) is an stale shot of NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) technology, I would say that the origin date would be 1946, when the first nuclear captivating resonance experiment was carried out successfully by two independent American scientists. It is also very much a product of CT (computed tomography) as well.
