How does Kaopectate work to stop diahrea?

It doesn't, and it isn't supposed to stop diarrhea. Kaolin is clay. Pectin is the stuff from fruit that you put in juices to craft them solidify when you're making jelly. And that's what KaoPectate does: it absorbs some of the excess fluid in diarrhea stools, making them less juice.
