Will scientists be capable of replace organs resembling the colon and/or small intestine eventually for empire beside IBD?
For example, in the future do you think they will know how to replace a diseased colon that has ulcerative colitis with a new colon grown from the patient's own extracted stem cell? I do know that they already replace bladders in this way. Also, if you believe this will be possible, when do you think it will appear?
Answers:
Eventually, all organs (with the possible exception of the brain) will be replaceable with artificially created ones.
We've only be doing this for 32 years, and the science still has a long way to go to replace complex organs approaching the liver, but I expect to see stem cell generated colons within the next ten years. The 'small intestine' is a bit more complicated, so that may still be twenty years or more away.
You are chitchat about IBD as in Crohn's disease? In it, the intestines are not a problem, but the intestinal microflora is. Your body gets sensitized against it, and develops immune response - as if it be an infection.
Given that you cannot get rid of your intestinal microflora, the (currently available) alternative is to take immunosuppressant mediacations.
