What would extreme radiation do to the body?
If you have ever played the game Fallout 3 you would know that radiation fallout plays a major cut of the world it takes place in. What I wonder is, let’s assume you walk into a zone explicitly registering 2000 rads/sec, would you simply lose consciousness and drop like a stone, would it be hot and painful, would the skin blister and burn, or would there be no adjectives effect felt or seen? Often radiation in science fiction is portrayed as some type of death ray that would vaporize or melt a character. From what I’ve read it seems heavy radiation would kill you surrounded by short time, from illness and internal damage caused from organ wound. Additionally if someone died in that irradiated zone would decomposition be slowed or halted as microbes are unable to survive within that environment? Thanks
