Calling adjectives Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy experts!?

Does anybody know how Prednisone and Deflazacort etc. slow the rate of muscle wasting in DMD patients?

Thanks!
Answers:
go to http://www.parentprojectmd.org for Duchenne or Becker's MD. Go to http://www.mda.org for broader questions nearly md.I believe the current thought is that these steroids reduce inflammation. There is a lot of research activity for Duchenne/Becker's.
All forms of muscular dystrophy are relatively singular. In about 35 years of practice I had only 6 patients near MD, hardly enough to become an expert.

If you have a child or relative beside MD, I recommend you consult a program at a university affiliated medical center. Then follow their advice. Don' let some self-appointed "expert" torpedo the treatment program. Get a qualified second opinion if you are not smug.

Prednisone and deflazacort are anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive drugs. I am not familiar with the use of the latter in DMD. Be sure you verbalize with the doctors about side effects and risk versus benefits with potent medication such as these.
