Generally, one assumes that autoreactivity means that the body's immune system is mounting an immune response to part of the body itself and results in an auto-immune disease, such as lupus or type 1 diabetes.However, near is one non-pathological autoreactivity in the body that I can think of: part of the immune system involves T cell -T cells are selected in the thymus. As they overhaul through the thymus, the T cells are exposed to peptides that are found throughout the body - any T cells that react to these peptides (i.e. they are autoreactive) will be delete - this prevents them from entering the circulation ... this is one process that may be disrupted and lead to autoimmune diseases. This autoreactivity is not pathologic per se, since it is the normal process and function of the thymus. Hope this helps!
