Why does a person's heart pounding faster when stressed?

thanks xxx
Answers:
Adrenaline the 'flight or fight' hormone is released causing your heart to beat faster.
Epinephrine- When in the bloodstream, it rapidly prepares the body for conduct in emergency situations. The hormone boosts the supply of oxygen and glucose to the brain and muscles, while suppressing other non-emergency bodily processes (digestion in particular).
It increases heart rate and stroke volume, dilates the pupils, and constricts arterioles in the skin and gastrointestinal tract while dilating arterioles within skeletal muscles. It elevates the blood sugar level by increasing catabolism of glycogen to glucose in the liver, and at impossible to tell apart time begins the breakdown of lipids in fat cell. Like some other stress hormones, epinephrine has a suppressive effect on the immune system. Source(s): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adrenaline#…
Yes, it' the natural part of the clash or flight response. Adrenaline is responsible for the fight or flight responses and reaction. When adrenaline enters into the bloodstream the body prepares to run action if in an emergency situation/under threat.

The natural response give an extra supply of oxygen and glucose to the brain and muscles for extra energy. Source(s): Cardiac Nurse
because adrenaline is released from your adrenal glands, which causes your arteries to constrict, and thus causes your heart to beat faster.
hey esme
yep like everyone said it's due to the release or adrenalin and noradrenalin. however noone said HOW they are released.basically its due to the sympathetic bashful system (stimulated in fight, flight situations) its an autonomic system meaning that u cannot control it. anyways..this system stimulates miscellaneous things to happen to allow u to adapt to being surrounded by the stressful situation...one of those responses is tachycardia (inc heart rate) so u can pump more blood and be able supply enough nutrients to ur muscles so u can effeciently escape from the hairy green monster chasing after you!!
lol
hope i help Source(s): im a med student
adrenaline is released into the bloodstream which speeds up your heart

otherwise referred to the 'flight or fight response'
the brain sends messages to your body and make your heart pump faster so that you can react more as if you're having an adrenaline rush. Source(s): my teacher contained by biology
