Is it possible to survive minus a stomach?

Answers:

Yes,
but you would have to run a very specialized diet and would have life-long complications.

The stomach is not responsible for absorbing food.
It is an important food processor.
The tart (HCl) and churning motions of the stomach break the food down into a slurry which can be digested by the small intestines.

Without the stomach, large, solid food would pass straight through the body with little digestion.
Moreover, the small intestin would be deprived of stomach-produced hormones and neurological stimuli which increase intestinal digestion.

Without a stomach you would either have to drink an unpalatable solution of proteins, carbs and fats or enjoy a tube placed in your belly to feed your intestines directly (an ileostomy).

So, it is possible but not a good agency to live. Source(s): MD
