What will it whip for me to become an orthopedic surgeon?

8 years? What $$$$?

Any guess as to what it will take to set up a job after college?

Is it a secure profession with good holiday time off?

Looking at this cross-question, it's clear that you will never be an orthopedic surgeon.

Surgery is not about $$$$$ and time off. It's about adjectives and sewing (and for orthopods, drilling, nailing, screwing, hammering, etc) in the OR.

4 yr college, 4 yrs med academy, 5+ years residency, so a minimum of 13 years. Thirteen VERY difficult years.

Good luck with the career search. I'm sure you'll find something better suited to your requests.
Well yes. It will clutch 8 years. The first four years are spent in medical school. Then you would have to specialize within orthopedic surgery which takes another four years. However, most people these days are doing a fellowship which comes after residency. A fellowship is designed to focus on one nouns within your specialty. For example, if you wanted to become an orthopedic surgeon, you could do a fellowship in spine, wrists, knees, etc. My father is an orthopedic surgeon and he have worked EXTREMELY hard over his lifetime. They have very long hours contained by which they are on call and have to come in to put screw in a broken bones all the time. There are nights where on earth you are warm and cozy in your bed and at 3 a.m, you have to stir set a broken wrist. It is a very rough and strenuous specialty compared to other specialties. It is however a very secure available job with excellent pay. Holiday time off depends on the environment surrounded by which you work in. It is a long road ahead of you and I would not go into orthopedic surgery unless you are 110% committed. Hope I helped
If you want money, don't walk into medicine, and really don't go into surgery. Sure, there's money there, but the lifestyle you'll own to live to earn it will not be worth it. Stick to business and let people who actually want to be a doctor and comfort others take care of the medicine.
8 years 200k alot of connections that you cant just make on a whim. the employment is secure and my asshole orthopedist seems to take profoundly good holiday time. its one of the better career choices. break a leg.
