Is the 'mumps, measles and rubella vaccine not dangerous?

I am 17 year old males and have been told I necessitate a mumps, measles and rubella booster however I am worried about the safety of the vaccine.
Answers:
The most likely side effect is a sore arm for a year or two.

the risk is if you don't get immunised, you can pass measles on to an unborn child and cause blindness, among other things. Since you might not even know if someone is pregnant, it's a big risk to bring.

Mumps when caught by an adult male can cause sterility. Source(s): rn
The purported association between the MMR vaccine and autism has been disproven. The "landmark study" be filled with falsified data. Since you're 17, autism isn't an issue anyway, and the mercury-containing preservative thimerosal hasn't be used in childhood vaccines since 2000.

The benefits of the vaccine far outweigh the risks. An MMR titer test is not only more expensive than the vaccine, it's also probably not covered by insurance.
Here's the package insert that comes near the MMR vaccines sent to the doctors' offices. http://www.merck.com/product/usa/pi_circ… I suggest you read the entire thing before making your result.

People who are pro-life should be aware that the MMR vaccine is made using cells from an aborted fetus (WI-38).

Is the vaccine a requirement for school? You hold a few options other than the vaccine. You could get your blood titers tested to see if you still own immunity to those diseases from a previous MMR vaccine, and then get an exemption base on immunity. Or, you could get a religious or personal beliefs exemption, depending on your state law. http://mothering.com/discussions/showthr…
Yes, it's safe. There is no use to suggest that the vaccine will cause you any problems at all. I've had several vaccines within my life and not once have I had a problem.

Oh sure, OCCASIONALLY someone might enjoy a bad reaction but that's VERY rare. No more promising than you having a bad reaction to any other medical treatment. If vaccines posed any significant risk, next they would definitely not be used at such a large scale.

And believe me, you really don't want to acquire any of these diseases. That is for sure. If you have a vaccine, then there is an extremelly small arbitrariness you might react badly. If you get one of these, after it's pretty much guaranteed you won't enjoy it.

So, yes, get the vaccine.

Note: I am not a doctor, so this isn't formal medical advice, merely stuff I happen to know about. If you want real proposal, then speak to your doctor about it.
I agree with everybody above except James W & Solarcide who are complete idiots. They are definitely not from the field of medicine or science if they believe this, however yes the MMR vaccine is completely safe do not believe the medium spin and general ignorance which infects the modern general population.
Contra-indications to MMR vaccine:-
Pregnancy, immunocompromised state, history of anaphylactic reaction to gelatin or neomycin, active TB (untreated), recent treatment with immune globulin Source(s): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MMR_vaccine…

Just like any vaccine, it does enjoy risks. If you were a child there is strong evidence that it can cause Autism (this happen to a child of a former friend of mine). Since there are proven dangers for taking vaccines, it makes sense to bring tested to see if you are already immune (called a TITER test). Talk with your doctor about this. If he claims that there is no theory test for disease immunity, find a doctor that is less greedy and more honest. It is more lucrative to supply the vaccines that it is to give TITER tests, and unfortunately some doctors contemplation more about money than performing good health trouble. Yes, it's very sheltered. Thank the medical community for that one. Those born before 1957 generally had the unrepressed diseases, and many young men got mumps orchitis, wipe out their testicular function.
I own to chime in, too. It is much safer than the diseases.
I remember having the Measles. I hurt so much I wanted to die.
My brother have Rubella at age 9 months and it caused his mental retardation, he was normal past the Rubella.
I remember the Mumps, too, they hurt but not like the Measles.
Please, get vaccinated and variety sure your children are vaccinated.
Rubella in pregnancy still causes 400 cases of mental retardation, deafness or blindness surrounded by the US each year. Most of these mothers are from outside the US but not all.

It's safer than actaully contracting all those so I suggest you do it.
Considering it wiped out most of those cases that we had earlier on contained by the United states. Yes. It is safe.
